Jun 10, 2014 - The Senators spent another highly enjoyable sunny weekend in Franconia, NH, at the Old Man of the Mountain tournament. After an early Saturday morning breakfast at Polly's Pancake Parlour, the first game kicked off at 10 a.m. against Amoskeag. This was a hard, close-fought encounter that ended with two tries scored by each side (although Amoskeag converted one of theirs, so technically they won 12-10). It was noted (by us) that the second Amoskeag try followed a blatant knock-on that the referee failed to see (he was the only one to do so on and around the pitch, including the opposition..!).
The second match against Worcester kicked off at 12 noon, with the Senators tired, battered and bruised from their first encounter, wearing a "motley mix" of colourful rugby shirts . This must have spurred them on, as the Senators pulled together and gelled as a team for probably the first time this season, running in five tries in an impressive performance to claim the victory.
The squad then returned to the Gale River Motel for swimming, hot-tubbing, fun and frivolity, and we even took in a couple of bars...
