Captain vs president 2012

Apr 28, 2012 - Saturday April 28th saw the annual President's XV v Captain`s XV game played at TERP.

Despite a number of players being unavailable, 29 hardy souls braved the late Winter chill to turn out for the annual precursor to the season proper.
President Mark and Captain Darren ensured that their respective teams matched their own impeccable dress standards with the Pres VX decked out in last year`s pink / purple shirts and the Capt XV sporting various shades of firey red!

The game was played in an uncharacteristically good natured manner with referee Lee feeling most of the pressure thanks to the traditional old boy tactic of disputing absolutely every reffing decision!

Despite some early pressure at scrum time, the President's men were unable to make it count where it mattered and the Captain's troops made the most of the wind advantage as they stormed into a 10-0 half time lead. Their second score brought back chilling memories for all Irish rugby fans as that stalwart of honesty, Captain Darren, pulled a "Neil Back" and knocked the ball from scrumhalf Einar's hands to steal the scrum and set up a flashy move off the back of the scrum which saw Lyndsey power over in the corner.

With the wind at their backs, the purple Pres men rallied to bring the scores level at 10-10 after four quarters. The equalising score came from a break away by Andrew H which he dotted down under the posts for an easy conversion by DAVE CONNELL, which was missed in spectacular fashion to a loud roar of laughter by all concerned.

A fifth quarter was proposed as a means of separating the teams and the game was finally decided by a superb team effort from the reds rounded off by debut man Dave Christie who had aquitted himself admirably in his first outing at flanker.

After post match beverages, 22 players met at the Clocktower pub for a very enjoyable gentleman's dinner which was topped off by the celebration of our President's 51st (or was it 71st?) birthday.
