Avalon Sled Dogs would like to welcome you to our site!
We are looking forward to another exciting season at the Paradise Double Ice Surface Arena. The Town of Paradise has built a beautiful new complex with some forward-thinking features that make the facility the only "sledge friendly" arena in the Province.
Our program consists of youth and adults, and runs each Saturday from 12-2PM on Rink A, from October through April. Registration details for the season are available on the Registration Form in the Documents section of this site.
- No hockey experience required to join.
- Ice sledges and sticks are supplied.
- Players must wear protective equipment (helmet and face shield, neck protector, shin guards, shoulder pads, elbow pads, and hockey gloves). Financial assistance may be available to those requiring support to purchase equipment.
- We have about a 50/50 split of able-bodied players and disabled players (both male and female players), making our program a truly inclusive sports program.
Our team is also very proud to represent Newfoundland and Labrador every January at the London Blizzard Invitational Sledge Hockey Tournament in London, Ontario. At the 2014 tournament, we achieved the best ever finish for a team from Newfoundland, going undefeated in the round robin and winning our division! In addition, the Sled Dogs very own Liam Hickey is a current member of the Team Canada Men's Sledge Hockey athlete pool and has played for Canada on several occasions.
Avalon Sled Dogs operates as a member of the Avalon Sledge Hockey Association, and is closely aligned with Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador to promote the game in our Province.
So if you're curious about sledge hockey, come on out and check us out during one of our weekly sessions. We would be happy to see you! Check out our Announcements section for any key dates.
