Charlottetown Colonels Win Provincial 14U Girls Volleyball Title
The Charlottetown Colonels made it back to back championships in the volleyball PEI Provincial 14U girls championships held recently at Summerside Intermediate School. Eight teams from 6 different clubs took part and it was a battle for all three medal positions. The teams first played a round robin (20 min games) to determine seeding for the playoffs. The Colonels finished first in Pool A followed closely in second place by Kensington 1. Redd Mudd finished first in Pool B with Summerside finishing in second. Other teams to take part included West Prince Islanders 1 & 2, Kensington 2, & EFB Jaguars.
The semi-finals saw the Colonels defeat Summerside by a score of 34-23 and the Kensington 1 team get by Redd Mudd by a score of 34-24. The Gold Medal match was a see-saw affair with the Colonels prevailing by a score of 30-26. Summerside took the bronze with a 33-27 win over Redd Mudd.

Next up for the 15U/17U girls and the 16U/18U boys in the final provincial team tryout to be held May 15th at Kensington Intermediate School. Athletes chosen for these team will represent PEI at the Eastern Elite Championships Aug 6th & 7th in Moncton, NB. Go to www.volleyballpei.com for tryout times and more information.
