Minor Hockey Funding

The Wade Duggan Memorial Fund

Our Mission: To help remove the statement, "No, I can't afford it."

On March  1i\ 2009 our friend/former teammate/co-worker/family  member was tragically lost in the Cougar Flight 491 crash.  Wade's love & dedication to hockey was common to many of us.  In 2011, it was decided to start an annual hockey tournament for fellow workers in the Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Oil Industry.  The purpose of the tournament is to celebrate Wade Duggan's life, love of hockey, and to bring together workers from the offshore for an honorable cause.

It takes great sacrifice by families to have children play minor hockey these days. These sacrifices demand a tremendous family commitment of both time and money.  Hockey is a sport where we have the pleasure of meeting and befriending many wonderful people throughout the years.  A sport which we have seen first hand, young players unable to play due to the cost of travel, equipment, and rising fees. We as an organization developed a plan to help combat this issue. Though the money raised from our annual tournaments, The Wade Duggan Memorial Fund is looking to sponsor minor hockey players, male and female, in amounts of $1000 per year.

For the 2011-2012 hockey season, The Wade Duggan Memorial Fund sponsored 3 minor hockey players.                    The 2nct Annual Wade Duggan Memorial Rec Hockey Tournament, held this past April, was a greater success. The 2012 tournament had 10 teams that participated , representing workers and companies from the NL offshore, (4 more than year one's, 6 team tournament) .

For the upcoming 2012-2013 hockey season, The Wade Duggan Memorial Fund is looking to sponsor 10 players.  We are asking people involved in the Newfoundland  & Labrador hockey community to keep an ear and eye out for any players or potential players that are in need of assistance.  These players can be anyone you hear of that are in need of monetary help in some way.  Anything from new equipment, player house

league registration , all-star registration, hockey camp registration, or players needing assistance for travel cost.  We want to help remove the statement, "I can't afford it." Whether it be for a single parent child, a child from a family dealing with illness, or just a young player that is good enough to play all-star hockey , but feels it is too much of a burden on his family to pursue it any further.  The Wade Duggan Memorial Fund would like to help these families and youth players.  We are asking for names and minor hockey contacts that can help us select 10 youth players for the 2012-2013 season.

Please feel free to email any of the committee members listed below if you have any

information that can aid our cause.
